The Purchaser is responsible for monitoring the day-to-day operations of assigned inventory categories for BTI. This position requires strong analytical skills as well as the ability to plan, review, and follow through to completion of all assigned responsibilities.

Position Details:

The primary responsibilities and areas of impact of this position include, but are not limited to:

Management

  • Set and monitor model stock points
  • Maintain current item catalog with organized vendor and product information
  • Price product in accordance with sales and margin exceptions
  • Rectify outstanding, open and/or unmatched receiving logs and invoices

Inventory Replenishment

  • Review inventory to ensure warehouse has an adequate and timely selection
  • Submit accurate and timely purchase orders
  • Review order confirmations for terms and shipping accuracy prior to order release
  • Enter new skus into database and create purchase orders
  • Ensure purchase orders are fulfilled 100% and shipped in a timely manner
  • Manage backorders

Open to Buy / Inventory Management

  • Keep inventory dollar levels within budgets
  • Maximize margins
  • Balance selections with price points
  • Work with Marketing and Sales team to enhance sales on slow moving products
  • Work with the Vendor's warranty department to resolve any product issues, recalls and credits

Planning & Forecasting

  • Plan category assortment and develop sales strategy across all channels through product sourcing, development, positioning, and pricing, and concept development and management
  • Develop and execute promotional strategies
  • Executes item pricing strategies, including promotional pricing and markdowns
  • Forecast and control inventory levels in warehouse to achieve sales goals
  • Establish and maintain vendor relationships
  • Negotiate contract terms
  • Analyze industry, competition, and category trends to identify new product opportunities
  • Analyze sales to stock ratios to ensure stores have the correct balance of inventory

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with or knowledge of:

  • Data management & analytics
  • Analytic driven product selection
  • Track trends in multiple categories

Experience:

  • 4 years of experience in bicycle industry
  • Successful track record in product management or relevant field

Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of the product categories carried by BTI
  • Strong understanding of the cycling industry
  • Interest in new trends
  • Exceptional time management, organizational and multitasking skills
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of professionalism
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Work well under the pressure of deadlines, and able to respond quickly to changes
  • Dedication to get the job done
  • Flexibility to change direction on a moment's notice
  • Proficient in Excel

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in an office environment, frequently utilizing computer and phone systems
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs while utilizing appropriate equipment and safety techniques
